Yesterday, we discussed which Districts and Divisions of the Court of Appeal produced the Supreme Court’s criminal docket for the years 2006 through 2011. Today, we finish the story, reviewing the years 2012 through 2017 (year-to-date).

Only twenty of the Court’s 311 criminal cases for the years 2012 through 2017 originated in the First District.  The Court has decided one case from Division One of the First District in 2014 and one in 2017.  The Court decided three cases from Division Two in 2012 and one in 2014 and 2015.  One case per year originated in Division Three in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. The Court decided one case per year from Division Four in 2012, 2013 and 2015.  Three cases originated in Division Five in 2012, two in 2015 and one in 2014.

Forty-eight of the Court’s 311 criminal cases came from the Second District – 15.43% of the docket.  The Court decided three cases from Division One in 2013, two in 2012 and one in 2015 and 2016.  The Court decided one case per year from Division Two in 2014, 2015 and 2017.  Two cases came from Division Three in 2014 and one per year in 2012, 2015 and 2016.  Two cases per year came from Division Four in 2012 and 2013, and one case in 2014.  The Court decided four cases from Division Five in 2016, two in 2012 and one per year in 2013, 2014 and so far in 2017.  Two cases originated in Division Six in 2014 and one per year in 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017.  The Court decided three cases from Division Seven in 2014 and one in 2013.  Three cases have come from Division Eight so far in 2017, two in 2012 and 2016 and one per year in 2013 and 2014.

The Court decided twenty-two criminal cases from the Third District.  The Court decided eleven cases in 2012, three in 2014 and 2016, two in 2015 and so far in 2017 and one in 2013.  The Court has decided sixty-two criminal cases from the Fourth District.  The Court decided seven cases from Division One in 2012, five in 2013, four per year in 2015, 2016 and 2017 and three in 2014.  The Court has decided six criminal cases so far this year from Division Two, three in 2012 and 2015 and two per year in 2013 and 2014.  The Court decided seven cases from Division three in 2016, three in 2012, 2013 and 2015, two in 2014 and one so far in 2017.  The Court decided five criminal cases originating in the Fifth District in 2012, four in 2013 and two in 2017.  The Court decided five cases from the Sixth District in 2013, four in 2012 and 2015, three in 2014 and 2016 and one so far in 2017.

The Court decided twenty-seven direct appeals in 2012, nineteen in 2013, twenty-four in 2014, seventeen in 2015, twenty-six in 2016 and nine so far in 2017.  Only two cases have arisen from the Court’s original jurisdiction – one each in 2014 and 2015.  The Court decided one criminal case as a certified question in 2013.  Finally, the Court decided two attorney disciplinary cases in 2014 and one in 2015.
