Justice Chin has participated in 220 criminal procedure cases since joining the Court.  Justice Chin has voted for defendants in 57 of those cases and against them in 163 cases.  Justice Chin voted for defendants in ten cases and against them 27 times between 1996 and 1999.  From 2000 to 2004, Justice Chin voted for defendants 18 times and against them 49 times.  From 2005 to 2009, he voted for defendants in seven times and against them in 37 cases.  From 2010 to 2014, he voted for defendants 12 times and against them in 31 cases.  Finally, from 2015 to 2019, he voted for defendants 10 times and against them in 19 cases.

Justice Chin has participated in 129 criminal procedure cases won by the defendants below.  He voted to affirm 20 of those decisions and to reverse 69 times.  From 1996 to 1999, he voted to affirm six times and to reverse in 11 cases.  From 2000 to 2004, he voted to affirm six times and to reverse in 21 cases.  From 2005 to 2009, he voted to affirm in only two cases and to reverse, in whole or in part, 18 times.  From 2010 to 2014, he voted to affirm in six cases and to reverse 13 times.  From 2015 to 2019, Justice Chin voted to reverse in all six cases won by the defendants below.

Justice Chin has participated in 129 criminal procedure cases lost by the defendants below.  He has voted to reverse, in whole or in part, 37 times and to affirm in 92 cases.  Between 1996 and 1999, Justice Chin voted to reverse four times and to affirm in 15 cases.  From 2000 to 2004, Justice Chin voted to reverse in 12 cases and to affirm 28 times.  From 2005 to 2009, Justice Chin voted to reverse five times and to affirm 19 times.  From 2010 to 2014, he voted to reverse in six cases and to affirm in 17 cases.  From 2015 to 2019, Justice Chin has voted to reverse in ten cases and to reverse 13 times.
