Justice Chin has participated in 163 criminal sentencing cases since taking his seat.  He has voted for defendants’ position in 51 of those cases and against them 112 times.  From 1996 to 1999, he voted for defendants 12 times and against them in 14 cases.  From 2000 to 2004, he voted for defendants five times and against them in 32 cases.  From 2005 to 2009, he voted for defendants seven times and against them in 21 cases.  From 2010 to 2014, he voted for defendants in 13 cases and against them 24 times.  From 2015 to 2019, he voted for defendants 14 times and against them 21 times.

Justice Chin has participated in 61 criminal sentencing cases won by the defendants below.  He has voted to affirm 20 of those decisions and to reverse in whole or in part 41 times.  Between 1996 and 1999, he voted to affirm only once and to reverse in six cases.  From 2000 to 2004, he voted to affirm once and to reverse in 14 cases.  From 2005 to 2009, he voted to affirm in six cases and to reverse in six cases.  From 2010 to 2014, he voted to affirm seven times and to reverse in ten cases.  From 2015 to 2019, he voted to affirm five times and to reverse five times.
